Edoardo Liberati makes Pirelli Super Taikyu debut
Edoardo Liberati embarks on a new program as he have signed with team KCMG to make his debut in the Pirelli Super Taikyu Championship. The 27-year-old Rome-based racer will drive a Honda NSX GT3 Evo car teaming up with Paul Ip, Josh Burdon and Hiroki Otsu.
After entering the Blancpain GT Series Asia in 2018 with KCMG claiming three podium finishes, Liberati returned last year to the Hong Kong’s squad making some important appearances in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring and Spa, and making a brilliant debut in the Bathurst 12H taking the P7 overall.
The 2016 GT Asia champion and winner of the Pro-Am title of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia in 2015, is confident to have a great season in the Pirelli Super Taikyu. Burdon was already one of his team-mates in the Intercontinental GT Challenge. Otsu - who will take part only in the first two rounds - is a Japanese F3 race winner and a Honda driver in the Super GT500. Team founder Paul Ip is an experienced driver who raced in several championships.
“I’m glad to be teaming up with Paul [Ip] and Josh [Burdon]. I love Japanese motorsport and I’m very excited about Pirelli Super Taikyu”, Liberati commented, “Thanks to KCMG for this opportunity. We have good line-up and a competitive car, so definitely our aim is to fight at the front.”
The Pirelli Super Taikyu season for the Italian driver starts today with the official pre-season testing at Fuji. A three-week break will follow before the Suzuka opener on 21-22 March. The other rounds are Sugo (26 April), Fuji (7 June), Autopolis (2 August), Motegi (20 September) and Okayama (1 November).
